ACSF Advisory Council

The ACSF Advisory Council is a standing committee that advises the ACSF Board of Directors. Advisory Council members are distinguished leaders in education and practice, and comprise a diversity of cultures, nationalities, disciplines, fields of education, and religious/spiritual backgrounds. They utilize their global and professional experiences and networks to promote and support the ACSF Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan.

ACSF Advisory Council Members

Nader Ardalan is president of Ardalan Associates; coauthor of The Sense of Unity, Chicago University Press; Haram Sharif, Mecca, Saudi Finance Ministry; Habitat Bill of Rights, Iran Housing Ministry; Gulf Sustainable Urbanism, Harvard GSD; senior research associate, Harvard GSD; visiting lecturer, Yale, Harvard, MIT, Tehran University; served on the Aga Khan Award for Architecture steering committee.

Rachel Armstrong is Professor of Design-Driven Construction for Regenerative Architecture in the Department of Architecture of the Campus Sint-Lucas, Brussels/Ghent, KU Leuven in Belgium. Her research and teaching focus on transitioning industrial-era architecture to an ecological one, to develop “living” technologies and materials to establish new standards for sustainable living.

Prem Chandavarkar heads CnT Architects, an award-winning architectural practice in Bangalore, India, whose history dates to being the city’s first architecture firm. A former executive director of Srishti Manipal Institute of Art Design & Technology in Bangalore, he writes and lectures on architecture, urbanism, philosophy, politics, education, environment, art, spirituality, and cultural studies.

Michael J. Crosbie (Advisory Council Chair) is Professor of Architecture at the University of Hartford and the sole author, editor, or contributor to some 80 books as well as hundreds of articles on architecture, design, practice, and education. He has lectured on architecture throughout the US and abroad and is a registered architect.

Thomas Fisher is Professor of Architecture and Director of the Design Center at the University of Minnesota, where he also served as the dean for almost two decades. A prolific writer, Fisher was the editorial director of Progressive Architecture magazine and in 2025 was awarded the Topaz Medallion for Excellence in Architectural Education.

Thomas Fowler IV is an American Institute of Architects Fellow, a Distinguished Professor of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, and on the faculty of Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, California, where he was graduate program director. He brings more than 20 years of professional practice experience to his 35-plus years of teaching.

Bradford C. Grant has held leadership roles at Hampton and Howard Universities’ architecture programs as chair, director, associate dean, and interim dean. An accomplished architect, Grant has produced award-winning work in community design, contemplative practices through drawing in design education, and environmental justice in architecture. He is a co-founder of the “Directory of African American Architects.”

Scholar and educator Alberto Pérez-Gómez is considered one of architecture’s most important theoreticians, historians, and critics. At McGill University School of Architecture he was the Saidye Rosner Bronfman Professor of History    and Theory of Architecture until his retirement in 2021. That year he became a Laureate for the ACSF Award for Outstanding Achievement. 

Patrick J. Quinn attended the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Design, where he studied under Louis Kahn. As an award-winning design practitioner Quinn focuses on spiritual architecture. In 1971 he became Dean of the School of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, then Institute Professor of Architecture, and is now RPI Institute Professor Emeritus.

Suchi Reddy is founding principal of Reddymade, a practice exploring the intersection of spatial design, perception, and human experience. Integrating neuro-aesthetic research into architecture, she creates private residences, cultural institutions, workplaces, hospital environments, and public installations that engage the senses and provoke inquiry. She teaches at Columbia University and The Cooper Union.

Brigitte Shim is a principal of Shim-Sutcliffe Architects along with her partner Howard Sutcliffe. She is also a faculty member at the University of Toronto Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design where she has taught since 1988. She has served on numerous international, national, and local design jury and is always advocating for design excellence.

Marina Tabassum heads Marina Tabassum Architects in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She is the Academic Director of the Bengal Institute for Architecture, Landscapes, and Settlements, an intellectual platform for those involved in imagining and shaping environmental futures in the region. Her work has been recognized by several international awards programs, such as the Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
